Suspect on the loose after several people injured in Wisconsin mall shooting
(Reuters) – A suspect was on the run after several people were injured in an “active shooting incident” at a suburban shopping center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday.
The shooting took place outside a Macy’s (NYSE 🙂 department store at Mayfield Mall in Wauwatosa, a Milwaukee suburb of 47,000, according to local officials.
Seven adults and a teenager were taken to hospital, Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber said in a statement, but the extent of their injuries was unknown.
The shooter left the scene as rescuers arrived, Weber said, and has remained at large.
Police described him as a white man in his twenties or thirties.
Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride said in a statement earlier Friday that none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening. He added that 75 police were at the scene.
Live TV footage on local ABC affiliate WISN12 showed dozens of police vehicles with flashing lights outside Macy’s and video posted to Twitter showed paramedics pulling people out of the center commercial on stretchers.
Several customers interviewed by local media said shoppers and mall workers were locked inside the mall but safe. One of them said his sister – a mall worker – heard about 15 gunshots.
