Harry and Meghan Won’t Be Returning to Official Royal Work
LONDON — Queen Elizabeth II confirmed on Friday that Prince Harry would surrender his honorary military titles and patronage appointments, cementing the split between him and Britain’s royal family that opened up last year when he and his wife, Meghan, announced that they wanted to step back from their official duties.
Meghan will also give up her patronage appointments, Buckingham Palace said in a statement, noting that the queen would parcel out the titles and appointments to other members of the family.
“In stepping away from the work of the royal family,” the palace said of Harry and Meghan, “it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”
“While all are saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” the palace added.
